It's been over one
week since the 228-page current issue of Fashions of the
Times was released
in New York, and aren't the compliments coming in thick
and fast! (Which
hardly comes as a surprise considering the innovative idea
behind the issue.)
Amy Spindler, the iconoclastic editor of the publication,
enlisted a handful
of her favorite photojournalists from across the globe to
photograph "an iconic
person in an iconic location." The result is a world-
class first, as
every destination from the river Nile to the Crystal Harmony
luxury liner pops
up in its pages, along with an exciting array of outfits.
Cathy Horyn's perception
of "Couture Odyssey," throughout which she is
granted the experience
of investing in a couture suit, also takes the cake,
as was predicted
from everyone (including us) long before the feature piece
even went to print.
Moving on from the last cover theme, which saw model
Annie Morton in
a Gena Rowlands reenactment from the John Cassavetes film "A
Woman Under the
Influence," Alek Wek plays the part riding a motorcycle
dressed in a Viktor
& Rolf stars and stripes outfit (from the label's new
ready-to-wear collection).
Did somebody say Easy Rider?
Riding-high Eisner
Apart from the acclaim
Lisa Eisner is currently being rewarded with for her
contribution to
the current Fashions of the Times, the woman who single
handedly ushered
Rodeo Chic onto the Paris fashion scene is yet again on the
tips of the lips
of grapevine devotees around the world. Joining Eisner at
the core of conversations
is Eve MacSweeney (UK Vogue's savior in the
feature stakes of
September's edition), who visits the publisher/artist at
her Bel Air Canyon
home in L.A. for the magazine. Along with commentary from
the Wyoming native,
Tom Ford and Isaac Mizrahi give their opinion on the
mother of two, and
MacSweeney documents just the right amount of revelations
from Eisner, whose
savvy knack for embracing her persona guarantees to
inspire many a reader.
Favored by Fashion Net is the following quote from
Eisner: "One of
my favorite games is to drive to Palm Springs on a Friday,
go thrift shopping
and only wear the stuff I find there that weekend." Put
simply, if ever
you have felt that oh-so-familiar pang between exiting your
bedroom and heading
out the front door dressed in a fabulous flea-market
find, then by all
means find yourself a copy of this profile for some
instant gratification.
